What is a Baseline Allowance?

The baseline allowance represents the monthly amount of energy (kwh) permitted at the lowest tier pricing. Should your energy consumption exceed this allowance in your billing cycle, you will transition to higher-cost tier pricing and beyond. This rule applies to customers enrolled in either a Standard or Time-of-Use plan.

How Your Baseline Allowance is Determined?

Several factors contribute to the determination of your baseline allowance, including:

  1. Climate Zone: Your residence's climate zone, whether coastal, inland, mountainous, or desert.

  2. Season: The current season, is categorized as either summer (June 1 – October 31) or winter (November 1 - May 31).

  3. Billing Cycle Duration: The number of days in your billing cycle.

  4. Service Type: The type of service in your home, categorized as either gas and electric or electric-only.

Regardless of whether you're enrolled in a Standard or Time-of-Use pricing plan, the calculator below provides an estimate of your baseline allowance. The estimation is based on a billing cycle of 30 days, a value that undergoes monthly adjustments. Feel free to use the calculator to explore how various factors affecting electricity costs can impact your baseline allowance. Notably, changes in seasons (summer and winter) can influence results, particularly for the months of June and October, as energy usage may span across both seasons.

For customers on a Standard plan, the calculator also indicates the threshold that, when exceeded, triggers a High Usage Charge. It's important to note that Time-of-Use pricing plans are exempt from the High Usage Charge.
